Designing Web Interfaces – 30 Essential Controls – By Theresa Neil
I’m always interested in seeing what other professionals consider essential to have in their tool box. I need a better tool box. My tool box is more like a collection of Tupperware containers I keep under my desk.
Small Sites don’t need XML sitemaps – By Barry Schwartz
It doesn’t mean a sitemap file for a small site is hurtful, it just means it is not required or necessary.

The Sigh – By Marjane Satrapi
I’ve liked everything Marjane has put out so far so I can only imagine I’m going to like this book.
Rose is one of three daughters of a rich merchant who always brings gifts for his girls from the market. One day Rose asks for the seed of a blue bean, but he fails to find one for her. She lets out a sigh in resignation, and her sigh attracts the Sigh, a mysterious being that brings the seed she desired to the merchant. But every debt has to be paid, and every gift has a price, and the Sigh returns a year later to take the merchant’s daughter to a secret and distant palace.
N.G.L. it sounds a lot like the plot of Beauty and the Beast. No, not the Disney version I’m talking about the version I read in a book. A book with no illustrations. The difference is in Beauty and the Beast the father stole the gift for his daughter from the Beast’s seemingly abandoned estate and the Beast demanded the daughter in return for what had been stolen.
Women Write About Comics – A new-ish site that is women writing about comics. Full confession, it’s the brainchild of someone I know. Don’t try to tell me women have no interest in comics. Fans who say this are usually Superhero comic fans. There are more comics out there than just Superhero comics. I have an extensive collection of comics and only a fraction are traditional superhero fare.
Darkness – by Boulet
I laughed and was intrigued! It’s like Gary Stu and Mary Sue square off! It’s a great comic but it nudges into the realm of amazing because it was done in TWENTY-FOUR HOURS! I’m not worthy.
Hyperion CEO Ellen Archer: Book Publishing Business Model Is Broken – By Jeremy Greenfield
Maybe we have to drop “books” from the way we think. I think that’s keeping us from not thinking as big and broadly as we need to.
Don’t trap yourself in the “’book’ book.” It’s wonderful and it’s been wonderful for many years, but the years of printing too many books and taking them back…it’s not really a great business model and we have an opportunity to create a better business model.
Thank you! I agree. ‘Book’ needs to be replaced by ‘story’ because the word ‘book’ is associated with a specific media type. You can get to know a story across many media. Did you notice I didn’t say you can ‘read a story’? Media means much more than written words you read. My personal consumer experience has shown that audio books are often available before softcover editions of popular author’s works
