I’m currently working on a web-based application that will be used to schedule and track cattle shipments. I’m trying to speed up delivery of this application by using the Yii PHP Framework but it’s only my second time developing in an MVC architecture so the learning curve is rather steep.
Last Friday I ran into a wall when developing a single form that saves data for two models. Pretty straightforward, right? I had thought so but there was SOMETHING preventing the second model’s data from saving. Recently I’d heard some good advice from @curtismchale about walking away when I get frustrated, so I did just that.
Then I went home.
All weekend that stupid code bounced around in my brain and last night I found myself dreaming about it. AUGH! There was no escape! I woke up feeling annoyed at myself for dreaming about work on what was supposed to be down time.
At work, I sat down at my desk and looked at the code I’d been working on, remembered my dream, and changed one line of code.
Bam! Everything works exactly as it should! *facepalm*
Does anyone else out there dream about code and find solutions while they sleep?
It would only cost me $200 to switch to an iPhone right now.
An iPad 3 is tempting… as a developer. I have a trusty laptop, otherwise.
It’s Spring and I feel change in the air! For better or for worse. Change.
What I’m saying here is, there are a lot of cute dogs in Canmore. Woof!
I felt pretty out of place, let me tell yah. Fat programmers who don’t, usually, go outside in the winter don’t fit into a town where the word ‘Nordic’ is used in official town signage.
Which is partly why I checked out Sports Experts. I needed camouflage! Also, there was a big 50% off sign. *cough* I bought a very fuzzy jacket, fuzzy gloves, and long underpants. It must have worked because, while we were on one of our walks, we were approached and asked for directions! My glee! It was enormous! We explained we weren’t the right people to ask and she said, wait for it, “Oh! I’m sorry. You looked like to belonged here!” BOOYAH! It took a 50% off North Face jacket and I was in!
I also learned the joy of baked brie! Delicious! I bought pop from Grizzly Paw and foccaccia from Bella Crusta and walked a lot in the fresh air. Weekend conquered!
